Newtown precinct - improving safety and managing traffic

Council is developing a plan to manage traffic and improve walking and cycling in the Newtown precinct. This area is located in the Stanmore Ward and is bounded by Enmore Road, King Street, Alice Street and Edgeware Road. See a map of the area

The aim of the plan is to:

  • increase road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists;
  • calm traffic and improve access for pedestrians and cyclists; and
  • manage changing traffic needs over the next ten years.

Have your say

Local knowledge of walking, cycling and driving in your neighbourhood is valuable to this work. You are invited to share information and experiences by completing the survey below.

The last day to complete the survey is Wednesday 4 July 2018.

Who should complete the survey?

Council would like to hear from schools, residents, business owners and workers. The experiences of pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and other road users are all welcomed.

What happens next?

Your survey answers, along with a review of traffic volumes, vehicle speeds, heavy vehicle use and crash statistics, will be used to develop a draft Local Area Traffic Management Plan for the Newtown precinct. The draft plan is expected to be placed on public exhibition in October/November 2018 for further community feedback before it is considered by Council. Once the plan is adopted by Council a schedule of works will be developed.

Queries

If you have any queries about the draft plan please contact Council's Traffic and Parking Planner, Sunny Jo, on 9392 5965 or email.
