Boomerang Street, Haberfield - improving safety

Council is proposing to improve pedestrian and motorist safety in Boomerang Street, between the City West Link Road and Crescent Street. This addresses residents’ concerns about speeding in Boomerang Street which Council has investigated and confirmed is an issue.
The proposal is based on recommendations from the former Ashfield Council’s Traffic Management Strategy which was endorsed by Council on 23 August 2016, following a period of community engagement. It is also continuation of the Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) measures recently completed in Waratah Street and Tillock Street, Haberfield.

The proposed work includes:

Parking changes

There are no changes to the existing parking in the street.

Give us your feedback on this proposal using the form below. The last day to comment is Thursday 18 January 2018. The community engagement is open for six weeks to provide additional time for feedback over the Christmas and New Year period

What happens next?

Council has not yet made any commitment to change the traffic arrangements in your street. A report, together with the community’s comments and this proposal, will be considered by Council’s Local Traffic Committee (LTC) meeting on 6 February 2018. The Committee will make recommendations for Council to consider at its February 2018 meeting Please check Council's website early next year to find out the date and location of the Council meeting.

Council will notify everyone who provided comments of the final decision.

The LTC meeting agenda will be available to view on Council’s website in the week before the meeting. Members of the public may register to speak at this meeting. When is the work planned for ?

These works are expected to be built in the 2018/19 financial year subject to outcome of this community engagement, final approvals and budget allocation. Residents will be notified before any work starts.

    Council considered a report and the recommendations of the Local Traffic Committee (LTC) at a meeting on 27 February 2018. Council approved the recommendations of the LTC to:

    • Support the design plan of the speed cushions and associated signs and line markings in Boomerang Street, Haberfield, between the City West Link Road and Crescent Street
    • Liaise with RMS to investigate appropriate linemarking and signposting for the Boomerang Street exit from City West Link Road, Haberfield.
