Name for a new lane in St Peters

Have your say about a name for the unnamed lane which is located between Grove and Alfred Streets and perpendicular to Albion and Rolf Lanes.

Background

Council wrote to residents previously, proposing the name ‘Lata Lane’ in honour of one of the founders of the surrounding development who passed away before work was completed.‘Lata’ is a small village in Greece where this developer’s family originated from. It was considered an appropriate name given the historical connection of Greek migration to this area.

A report recommending naming this lane as ‘Lata Lane’ was presented to the former Marrickville Council’s Infrastructure, Planning and Environmental Services Committee. The decision was deferred pending completion of a review of Council’s Road Naming Policy.

What’s happening now?

Following this decision, Council investigated a suitable aboriginal name for the lane because this aligned with the former Marrickville Council’s Road Naming Policy. This resulted in a new proposed name - ‘Dangura Lane’. This means ‘to dance’ and recognises the Aboriginal custodians and their contribution to the municipality. Council endorsed ‘Dangura Lane’ as the preferred name for public exhibition.
