Statement of Vision and Priorities


Background

Council’s draft Statement of Vision and Priorities will guide Council until a single Community Strategic Plan is developed for the inner west. The draft Statement of Vision and Priorities was created over a three month period which included extensive community and staff input.

The draft Statement was endorsed for review by the community at a Council meeting on 6 December 2016.

The Vision

The Priorities

Eight high level priorities emerged through the engagement process:

  • Planning and development
  • Transport
  • Social vitality, creativity and quality of life
  • Sustainability and the environment
  • One Council
  • Local industry and business
  • Advocacy
  • Local democracy

You are invited to provide feedback on the Statement of Vision and Priorities by completing the form below. The last day to provide feedback is Wednesday 8 February 2017.

What will happen next?

The feedback received will be used to develop a final Statement of Vision and Priorities which will be considered by Council at its meeting on 28 February 2017.

The final vision and priorities in the Statement will then be used in the development of the Community Strategic Plan (CSP).

Work on the CSP will commence in early 2017, and the community will be invited to contribute. The CSP will not be finalised until after Council elections in September 2017.

    Council considered a report about the Statement of Vision and Priorities at a meeting on 28 March 2017. At the meeting it was determined that:

    1. The report be received and noted; and

    2. The Statement of Vision and Priorities, inclusive of the amendments, be adopted as an interim document until the development and implementation of the Community Strategic Plan.

    At the Council meeting on Tuesday 6 December 2016,

    "The Administrator determined that Council adopt the Statement of Vision and Priorities for the purpose of community review subject to the following change;

    That Priority 4 - Sustainability and Environment be amended to add an additional dot point to read ‘Protecting and enhancing our natural heritage’."

  • Draft list of priorities from engagement forum on 5 September 2016

    Council has developed a draft list of priorities based on the feedback received from participants at an engagement forum on 5 September 2016. Discussions at the forum included:

    • a future vision for the community
    • issues and challenges, and
    • priorities for action.

    All of the participants' comments were captured and later analysed by subject area. The most frequently mentioned subject areas were then analysed further to identify reoccurring themes.

    Council will be refining the list during the engagement period. The community will be invited to provide further input towards the final list of priorities and our vision statement.
