Denison Road, Lewisham - improving safety

Council is proposing to improve the crossing on Denison Road at the intersection of Toothill Street to increase safety for all pedestrians, including children attending Lewisham Public and Christian Brothers High Schools. The existing pedestrian crossing was identified for improvement in an audit by the former Marrickville Council and has been successful in receiving Roads and Maritime Services grant funding to undertake the works. The proposal would remove the existing zebra crossing and construct a new, raised pedestrian crossing approximately five metres from the existing crossing to give motorists better visibility of people crossing Denison Road.

The proposed works include:

  • Installing a new raised pedestrian crossing;
  • Removing the existing zebra crossing;
  • Creating landscaped kerb extensions to improve visibility;
  • Extending the driveway of number 56a Denison Road to align with the new kerb;
  • Adjusting the lighting near the pedestrian crossing;
  • Installing associated signage, replacing any damaged signs and repairing faded road markings; and
  • Resurfacing and repairing the road pavement where shown.

Construction of this proposal would be funded by The Roads and Maritime Services

Parking changes

This proposal would result in the loss of three on-street parking spaces.
